Those who can take a break and get away from the daily grind, from lousy scary economic news, in many cases, the miserable cold weather, and do, more power to you. Cabo San Lucas is beginning to experience the yearly winter migration of the snowbirds. Slowly but surely terminal 2 (the private aircraft terminal at the airport) is starting to fill up with the Lear Jets and Citations, yachts and ocean going cruisers occupy every slip in the marina. Hotels, private homes, villas and condos are now fully staffed with maids, chefs and butlers, and real estate agents are booking private showings of homes, land and developments all over town. It seems that the downturn of the worldwide economy will miss us and we will “dodge the bullet”, as high end “regulars” are returning to our destination in force, and that they are determined to not allow back home reality to affect them, will this be our bailout? Cabo San Lucas even has it’s very own Starbuck’s now, so we can all have our “doppio espresso macchiato” . Real estate agents and brokers all over town are reporting a spike in activities as are mortgage, title insurance companies and notaries, and that can only mean one thing…people are buying real estate in Los Cabos.
And it makes sense, after suffering hit after hit on the stock market and 401K’s, those who can still afford to are armour plating their nest egg, putting their money where it will be safe and still worth something tomorrow. We toast those who can….and do.

In todays uncertain economic world everyone seems to be a financial expert, just tune in to any news channel and a barrage of financial advice from so-called analists spills out of your tv. Do they get paid by the number of words they articulate? or the accuracy of their predictions? What do they have to lose? after all, it’s not their money, it’s yours. In my mind, the options are clear but few…Stock market, just put your financial future in the hands of your financial advisor, his or her advise will obviously be to put your money where he or she can make a buck, right? Of course a diverse portfolio is the wise advise, “do not put all of you eggs in one basket” (where grand mothers the worlds first financial analists?) Not that the stock market is a bad idea, of course it’s not, but the keyword is definetly “diversify”. There is nothing worse than to hear the bell ring at the end of the trading day at a loss.
Owning real estate in Mexico is as good of an investment as owning in the US or Canada if not better, especially at high demand resort destinations where natural and man made attractions lure visitors with warm weather, pristine sandy beaches, swaying palm trees, signature golf courses and sizzling night life. Travelers that enjoy multiple yearly visits are common in Cabo San Lucas, over the years, these visitors have purchased all sorts of properties that will allow them to return. Time shares, fractional (fancier and more expensive timeshares) condos, homes and land to buid their dream home later. for this purpose, the government of Mexico has created a most secure financial instrument to ensure the safety of their investment it’s called a Fideicomiso, ( a renewable bank trust of which the investor is the beneficiary. Read Beaches of Gold at www.realestateofcabosanlucas.com . Is investing in real estate in Mexico, safer than the Stock Market? that’s your call to make, however the real estate option allows you to visit your money at a warm place, sipping a margarita and the worse case scenario is that tomorrow it will still be there and more than likely worth a lot more than what you paid for it.

Yes, I have positively found the best deal in Los Cabos.. luxury living in an environment revered the world over for its natural beauty, living in that same environment in a home crafted by MS Atlas, the visionaries recently featured in Architectural Digest Mexico is now possible. I am refering Las Misiones, a meticulously planned private community that is the inspired creation of MS Atlas, a joint venture between Morgan Stanley and Atlas Vivenda. Here, the California based and internationally renowned architectural firm of Danielian Associates, and Design Tec, highly sought-after and award-winning interior designers, have created a masterpiece.
An enchanting collection of authentic Mission-style homes, Las Misiones honors the rich history, character and culture of Cabo by adhering to an age old construction process that avoids prefabricated materials. Las Misiones features divine architectural details, including private balconies, graceful arches, Spanish shutters and lovely stone and ironwork. Gated, guarded and positively glorious.
Inside the private and guarded gates of Las Misiones, residents enjoy a life of luxury and a wealth of amenities. The clubhouse of Las Misiones offers an elegant, yet relaxing atmosphere carefully created to provide the perfect environment for grand affairs or cozy soirees. Outside the clubhouse is an inviting pool where you can enjoy leisurely swims and lovely afternoons of sunbathing. Attentive to the active lifestyles of its residents, Las Misiones features a fitness spa with the latest exercise equipment. A community concierge is also at your disposal to ensure all goes according to your plans, and in the event you need to take care of business, Las Misiones has a business center. A private retreat that anticipates your every need, you might find yourself thinking that Las Misiones was designed for your personal pleasure-and you would be absolutely right. Friendly and professional sales staff ensures that the buying process is seamless and easy. Luxurious and affordable, Las Misiones gated community in Cabo San Lucas, a very pleasant surprise.

Just a two hour scenic drive from bustling Cabo San Lucas sits La Paz, the sleepy, lazy and peaceful “older sister” of Los Cabos. Seemingly forgotten by the developers that have turned Los Cabos into a modern Gringo vacation paradise, complete with it’s Walmart, Sam’s Club, Home Depot and Costco just mention the a few names that will make you feel right at home, major hotel chains like Westin, Sheraton, Rosewood’s Ventanas al Paraiso, The One and Only at Palmilla and more on the way have staked their claim at this international resort destination, knowing full well that it’s proximity to the US, warm weather, world class fishing and man made signature golf courses are the magnet that attracts first time visitors and it enjoys one of the highest repeat visitor ratios in the country.
Average hotel rates in Los Cabos are the highest in Mexico, as are the prices for timeshare weeks and fractional shares as many wish to ensure their ability to return, of those, more and more are looking at full ownership as the viable smart investment as far is as a second home and vacation alternative. Hundreds, if not thousands of Baby Boomers have already “taken the plunge” and purchased their piece of paradise as oceanfront property in Southern Baja can still be had for a fraction of the cost of similar property in the US or Canada and the cost of living is also about 40% less that north of the border, property taxes are nominal and there are no safety issues to speak of.
La Paz and it’s surrounding areas will probably experience much growth and development in the near future, making it the best (and the only) place where you can find truly great real estate deals. Condominiums, homes and especially raw land are still abundant for those visionaries willing invest now in an area that certainly will become the choice spot for real estate investment.
