Medical treatment in Cabo San Lucas
Tuesday, April 21st, 2009Something that always worries residents and visitors alike is…What will I do if I get sick in Los Cabos? well, its entirely up to you what option you choose but let me tell you what happened to me….I´m a 58 year old married father of a teenage boy, although a gringo by birth, (American parents) I have lived in Mexico most of my life.
One Friday night, I fell asleep watching television in the family room a started to dream (I thought it was a dream, anyway) I felt sluggish and could not move, as I started to wake, I realized that I was not dreaming, I was having a stroke! My son, 14 at the time heard a crash (my head on a table as I struggled to move) and came into the family room, I could not speak, although I know what I wanted to say, I just could not say it, weird noises came out of my mouth. My son woke his mom and the called an ambulance, when it arrived the paramedic immediately diagnosed a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) or a baby stroke as it is sometimes called, a warning or shot accross the bow… I was only able to say one word, as it turned out, it was the right word: AMERIMED , the American Hospital in Cabo San Lucas, once there, the professional staff took superb care of me. My sister, a retired supervisor of adjusters for a major US insurance company, told me that I could not in a million years have received such good care even in the best stateside hospital. As it turned out my carothid artery was totally blocked, impeding the flow of blood and oxigen to my brain, in minutes I had a a cardiologist, a neurosurgeon and Dr. Moguel, dear Dr. Moguel a vascular surgeon who placed a stent in my artery and long story short, is one week I was as good as new! When traveling in Los Cabos or living here, the only word you need to know if you fall ill is AMERIMED…By the way, there is an Amerimed in Puerto Vallarta and Cancun as well.
